Two pioneers of the Québec Black Metal scene, Athros (Brume d’Automne, Forteresse) and Monarque (Monarque, Forteresse) revisit the very early days of Black Metal on Sacrenoir’s raging debut album. Falling in somewhere their respective bands and old Darkthrone and Gorgoroth, or even Bathory, Comme des Revenants Parmi les Ruines is cold, raw, classic Black Metal, the likes of which has seldom been heard within the québécois scene. Late 90's BM worship, but it's also a lil more than that. This album takes the best elements from the scene it's inspired by and mostly avoids the worst of it; the song-writing is well-written, it's performed with passion and fun, and the production is raw but isn't lo-fi. (i.e. it doesn't obfuscate and/or suckass). Tl;dr It's safe but high quality BM. Recommended. Rabbit

Swirling guitars, furious drums, vocals that at the same time howl from infinite distance and are right up in your head; everything put into dissonant form with the help of unconventional songwriting. Melodic, almost pagan black metal out of Iceland with some of the most aggressive vocals I've heard in the genre. It's balls to the walls from the first note with few respites, but its melodic enough to not overstay its welcome. Jeff Wilson
